The federal government is looking for proposals from 6 communities of 100-150 homes, that will implement, measure and share the results of deep energy retrofits.
Deep energy retrofits means reducing home heat loss by improving insulation, windows, air sealing, and reducing energy use by changing mechanical equipment like furnaces, hot water heaters and air conditioners.
This approach is called Energiesprong and was started in the Netherlands, and expanded across Europe.
It has proven to accelerate deep energy retrofits by building up the experience of stakeholders who then take on more deep energy retrofit projects.
